Spooked in the Saddle Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I was ridin’ through the pasture on a moonless night,
The wind was howlin’, gave me quite a fright,
My horse was nervous, stompin’ at the ground,
And I swear I heard a whisper, a ghostly sound.

The trees were twistin’, shadows all around,
My heart was racin’, didn’t make a sound,
Then I felt a cold chill run down my spine,
As I tightened up my grip on that ol’ lasso line.

[Chorus]
I’m spooked in the saddle, can’t shake this fear,
Something’s out there, it’s gettin’ near.
The night’s too quiet, the wind’s too loud,
And I swear I see a ghost up in that cloud.
Spooked in the saddle, I can’t run,
In the haunted night, I’m the only one.

[Verse 2]
The cattle started scatterin’, eyes wide with fright,
Like they’d seen a ghost in the dead of night,
My horse was tremblin’, wouldn’t move ahead,
Like he knew we were ridin’ with the restless dead.

I pulled my hat down, tried to keep my cool,
But every creak and crack made me feel like a fool,
The prairie’s dark, the shadows deep,
And the spirits out here, they don’t sleep.

[Bridge]
The ghostly wind starts to moan and wail,
Like a banshee ridin’ on a phantom trail,
My horse rears up, I nearly fall,
But I hear a voice sayin’, “This is the last call.”

[Verse 3]
Then a figure in white steps out of the mist,
With eyes like fire, and a cold, dead fist,
He tips his hat, and gives a grin,
Says, “Boy, you’re ridin’ where the dead have been.”

I spurred my horse, tried to make a break,
But the night held me fast, like a coiled-up snake,
And I knew right then, I was ridin’ blind,
In the ghostly grip of a haunted mind.

[Outro]
As the dawn breaks, and the sun comes ‘round,
The ghosts fade away without a sound,
But the memory lingers, and the fear’s still strong,
‘Cause out in the saddle, the night’s too long.
Spooked in the saddle, under the moon’s cold light,
I’ll remember that ride on a haunted night.
