(Verse 1) Well, the rooster overslept and the sun rose late,
The cows held a meeting to negotiate.
The pigs wore sunglasses, thought they’d catch some rays,
On the last day on the farm, we’re all in a haze.

(Chorus) Oh, the last day on the farm, what a sight to see,
The ducks in a rowboat, floating out to sea.
The horses playing cards, betting oats and hay,
It’s the last day on the farm, let’s laugh and play.

(Verse 2) The goats started yoga right at dawn’s first light,
Stretching out the kinks from a restless night.
The barn turned disco, with a mirror ball above,
Chickens line dancing, strutting their stuff.

(Chorus) Oh, the last day on the farm, it’s a wild ride,
With the sheep doing hair, got that countryside.
The corn stalks are popping, right off the field,
It’s the last day on the farm, our fate is sealed.

(Bridge) The tractor’s in a tutu, pirouetting past,
Even Old MacDonald couldn’t help but laugh.
We baked the last pie, with berries and cream,
A sweet farewell from the farming dream.

(Verse 3) The scarecrow’s now hosting, a talk show at night,
Interviewing veggies, oh what a sight!
The cat’s chasing dogs, and the world’s upside down,
On the last day on the farm, we’re the talk of the town.

(Chorus) Oh, the last day on the farm, let’s make it grand,
With a banjo-strumming turkey leading the band.
Throw a final hoedown, where we all can play,
It’s the last day on the farm, what a fabulous day!

The Last Day on the Farm

by Alan Nafzger (2016)

The rooster slept in, as the sun rose slow,
The cows gathered ‘round, put on quite a show.
The pigs lounged in shades, basking in rays,
It’s the last day on the farm, in a hazy daze.

The ducks took a boat, floating out to sea,
While the horses played poker, betting oats and tea.
The goats did yoga, stretching with grace,
As the barn turned disco, a wild dancing space.

Chickens strutted, line-dancing in style,
The sheep styled hair with a cheeky smile.
Corn popped off the stalks, in fields of delight,
It’s the last day on the farm, what a curious sight.

The tractor twirled by, in a tutu no less,
Old MacDonald himself couldn’t help but confess—
He laughed ‘til he cried, as the animals played,
A final farewell to the farm’s last parade.

The scarecrow hosted a late-night talk show,
Interviewing carrots, tomatoes in tow.
Cats chased the dogs, the world upside down,
On the last day on the farm, we’re the talk of the town.

With a banjo-strumming turkey leading the tune,
And a hoedown beneath the harvest moon,
The farm bids farewell with laughter and cheer,
On this wild, final day—there’s no room for fear.

So we laugh, and we dance, as the sun fades away,
It’s the last day on the farm, come what may.
A sweet goodbye to the fields and the hay,
On this magical, whimsical, one last day.
