A Few Coherent Sentences
I’d Need to Put Together a Few Coherent Sentences

What Third-World Are We In? –Music and Lyrics by Alan Nafzger
Verse 1
Well, the rooster’s crowin’ at the crack of dawn,
Got my boots on tight, gotta mow the lawn,
Tractor’s broken down, and the rooster’s crazy,
Livin’ on this farm, let me tell ya, it ain’t easy.
Chorus
I’d need to put together a few coherent sentences,
To explain this crazy life and its consequences,
Between the cows, the plow, and the endless fences,
I’d need a few coherent sentences.
Verse 2
Fix the fence post, keep the pigs in line,
Plantin’ all these seeds, prayin’ they’ll grow fine,
The sun’s beatin’ down, workin’ me to the bone,
But there’s somethin’ ’bout this land that feels like home.
Chorus
I’d need to put together a few coherent sentences,
To explain this crazy life and its consequences,
From the dawn ’til dusk, with all its expenses,
I’d need a few coherent sentences.
Bridge
It’s a hard day’s work, but it’s honest and true,
Out in the fields with a sky so blue,
Folks in the city, they just can’t understand,
The beauty of this dirt, the pride in this land.
Chorus
I’d need to put together a few coherent sentences,
To explain this crazy life and its consequences,
Through the highs and lows, and all its intense senses,
I’d need a few coherent sentences.
Verse 3
Now the sun is settin’, and the day’s finally done,
I wipe my brow, thinkin’ ’bout all that’s begun,
This farm ain’t perfect, but it’s all that I’ve got,
A patch of Earth where my dreams are caught.
Chorus
I’d need to put together a few coherent sentences,
To explain this crazy life and its consequences,
Between the hay and the rain, and all its defenses,
I’d need a few coherent sentences.
Outro
So I’ll sit on this porch, with the stars overhead,
Thinkin’ ’bout the words, all that’s left unsaid,
‘Cause I’d need to put together a few coherent sentences,
To tell you ’bout this farm and its true essences.
What About the farm?
That’s won’t be easy; I’d need to put together a few coherent sentences,
It’s Not Easy to Explain, But…
by Alan Nafzger (1999)
It’s not easy to explain, but there’s magic in the soil,
In the sweat on a brow and the satisfaction of toil.
It’s the morning dew on the fields, the rooster’s early crow,
The way the sun sets slow, making everything glow.
It’s not easy to explain, but there’s peace in the strife,
In the never-ending tasks that make up this life.
The rhythm of the seasons, the planting and the plow,
The hope in every seed we place into the ground.
It’s not easy to explain, but there’s pride in the pain,
In every calloused hand and every drop of rain.
It’s the joy in the simple, the beauty in the plain,
How something so rugged can be the most humane.
It’s not easy to explain, but there’s a story in the dirt,
In every patch of grass and every flannel shirt.
It’s a tale of hard labor, of strength and of grace,
Of finding your spirit in a wide-open space.
It’s not easy to explain, but it’s there in the air,
In the wind through the wheat and the evening prayer.
It’s the feeling of freedom, of land underfoot,
Of knowing who you are and staying put.
So it’s not easy to explain, but it’s something you feel,
In the heart of the farm, in every turning wheel.
It’s the life in the land, the sweat and the sun,
A simple kind of living where every day’s begun.
