Saint Jo Rodeo Boogie – Music and Lyrics by Alan Nafzger
Yaw’ll ready?
Verse 1:
We started out sittin’ on a hill, no seats in sight,
Grass stains on our jeans, watchin’ bulls that fight.
Sixty years of ropin’, ridin’, and Bar B Que smoke,
That chili’s hotter than the rodeo, folks.
Chorus:
At the Saint Jo Rodeo, where legends grow,
No alcohol at the parade, but later, who’s to know?
We’ll cheer for the cowboy, with his hat on tight,
Ridin’ through the dust under the Texas sky tonight.
Verse 2:
Scholarships for riders, and maybe for knees,
Bull ridin’ injuries ain’t no gentle breeze.
Parade starts at the ranch, horses need their docs,
But the real challenge? Findin’ cell service on those rocks.
Chorus:
At the Saint Jo Rodeo, where legends grow,
No alcohol at the parade, but later, who’s to know?
We’ll cheer for the Wrangler, who’s holding on tight,
Ridin’ through the dust under the Texas sky tonight.
Bridge:
Barrel racin’ girls, spinnin’ circles so fast,
Faster than the stories ’bout the Rodeo Queen’s past.
Trophies, buckles, knee braces on display,
And those bulls on Twitter got more to say.
Chorus:
At the Saint Jo Rodeo, where legends grow,
No alcohol at the parade, but later, who’s to know?
We’ll cheer for the Vaquero, with his hat just right,
Ridin’ through the dust under the Texas sky tonight.
Outro:
So saddle up, y’all, it’s rodeo time,
Where the bulls and horses are in their prime.
Saint Jo’s got stories, and they’re told with pride,
Just watch out for the chili—it’s hotter than the ride!
Saint Jo Rodeo Boogie
By Alan Nafzger (2022)
On a hill we sat, no chairs around,
Jeans stained green, on the rough ground.
Decades of tradition, smoke and rope,
Hot chili warmin’ hearts, givin’ hope.
In Saint Jo where the brave convene,
No spirits at the parade, but scenes unseen.
The queen shines, tiara glinting light,
Carving through the dust of the Texas night.
Scholarships for those who dare the beast,
For taming bulls is no light feast.
The parade’s path starts where the horses roam,
In lands where even cell waves lose their home.
Barrel racers whirl, a dizzying sight,
Outpacing tales of queens and twilight fights.
Trophies and tales, buckles bright as day,
Even the bulls go online to have their say.
Again to Saint Jo, where legends are made,
Under stars and stripes, memories never fade.
So come gather round, the rodeo’s in town,
Where chili’s as bold as the crowns they’ve won.
So hitch your hopes to this rodeo ride,
In Saint Jo, pride and spirit coincide.
With tales as tall as the Texas sky,
And chili that dares you to give it a try.
