[Upbeat country tune with a honky-tonk feel]
[Verse 1]
Well, “Lois Lane” packed up her bags, headed down South,
She got tired of his flyin’ and always runnin’ his mouth.
Superman was busy savin’ the world each day,
But she found a cowboy happy to two-step the night away.
Now she’s ropin’ cows instead of chasin’ a scoop,
Dancin’ on the ranch, no more press room hoop-de-doop.
Jimmy Joe Briggs ain’t got no cape ‘n’ don’t fly,
But he’s got a Silverado, and Lois loves the ride.
[Chorus]
Lois Lane left Superman for Jimmy Joe Briggs,
Traded in that cape for boots and a Stetson fit.
She found her peace under that Texas sky,
Now she’s two-steppin’ ‘round the Texas Nite Life,
Let her country out, free from all the strife.
Yeah, Lois Lane left Superman for Jimmy Joe Briggs!
[Verse 2]
Superman could fly, but had no time to mend a fence,
Jimmy Joe’s got “hammer skills” that just make sense.
While Supes was off savin’ folks far and wide,
Lois found a cowboy who’s always by her side.
Journalism’s dead and now she milks cows,
In the Texas sun, she’s learnin’ how.
No more PR teams messin’ with her life,
She’s just churnin’ ice cream, lovin’ ranch life.
[Chorus]
Lois Lane left Superman for Jimmy Joe Briggs,
Traded in that cape for boots and a Stetson fit.
She found her peace under that Texas sky,
No more headlines, no more need to fly.
Now she’s two-steppin’ ‘round the Texas Nite Life,
Let her country out, free from all the strife.
Yeah, Lois Lane left Superman for Jimmy Joe Briggs!
[Bridge]
Superman’s got laser eyes and ice-cold breath,
But Jimmy Joe can grill a steak better than the rest.
While Supes can fly across the world in a flash,
Lois loves that truck and a horse named Cash.
[Outro]
Lois Lane loved Superman, that much was clear,
But the Opry stage kept callin’ her ear.
She knew she’d never sing if she stayed in his shadow,
So she followed her dream and moved north of Laredo.
Now she’s at the Grand Ol’ Opry, singin’ a tune,
Superman’s a memory beneath that Nashville moon.
Jimmy Joe’s her cowboy, and she’s feelin’ fine,
Lois Lane’s gone country, leavin’ Supes behind.
[end]
Lois’ got a ring, journalism’s dead
and she’s now in Jimmy Joe’s bed.
[Guitar twang outro with some fiddles and steel guitar]
Lois Lane Left Superman for Jimmy Jo Briggs – Music and Lyrics by Alan Nafzger
Lois Lane Left Superman for Jimmy Jo Briggs
By Alan Nafzger (Wichita Falls, TX, 1985)
Lois Lane once loved the city lights,
With Superman there, soaring high in flight.
But even a hero, strong and true,
Can’t hold a heart that needs something new.
She’d watched him save the world each day,
Yet felt her soul drift far away.
For there in Texas, quiet and wide,
A cowboy’s arms became her guide.
He didn’t fly, didn’t wear no cape,
But Jimmy Jo had a different shape.
Strong hands, roughened by the land,
Offered her more than a hero’s stand.
Superman could melt steel with a stare,
But Jimmy Jo gave her time to care.
He didn’t dash off to save the stars,
He built her a life next to the quietest bar.
Out on the range, where the cattle roam,
Lois found herself in a cowboy’s home.
No more pressrooms, no deadlines to keep,
Just a slow Texas breeze, and nights with little sleep.
No fancy suits or ice-cold breath,
Just a man who stayed till the day’s last breath.
She learned the dance of life real slow,
Out in the fields where the wildflowers grow.
They say she traded the cape for spurs,
Left behind the hero who once was hers.
But out in the West, where the sky turns red,
Lois found a love that’s deeper instead.
For Jimmy Jo don’t rush or race,
He takes his time, and he knows his place.
Not up in the clouds, but here on the land,
With Lois Lane ridin’ by his hand.
So when folks wonder why she let Superman go,
She’ll smile and say, “There’s more to know.
A cowboy’s heart is steady and true,
And I found my peace in a sky really blue.”
